Dumbbell Lateral Lunge

The dumbbell lateral lunge is a compound lower-body exercise that trains the frontal-plane lunge pattern — stepping out to the side rather than forwards or backwards. It develops strength and stability through the gluteus medius, quadriceps, and adductors simultaneously, making it a more complete lower-body stimulus than sagittal-plane lunges alone. How to do it
Stand tall holding dumbbells at the sides. Step one foot out to the side in a wide lateral stride. Push the hips back and bend the stepping knee until the thigh approaches parallel — keep the foot flat and the knee tracking over the toes. The stationary leg stays straight. Drive back through the stepping foot to return to the start position. Alternate sides.

- Taking too short a stride — step out wide enough that the thigh of the stepping leg can approach parallel to the floor while the stationary leg remains comfortably straight.
